<p>This research aims to analyze the Influence of Story Mapping strategy and reading motivation towards reading comprehension achievement. The writer distributed pretest, posttest, and questionnaire in collecting the data. Then in analyzing the data, the writer used a t-test and two-way ANOVA. The findings of this study were (1) There was a significant influence of the Story Mapping strategy towards the scores of reading comprehension achievement on the narrative text. (2) There was not any significant influence of the Story Mapping strategy towards the scores of reading comprehension achievement on the narrative text. (3) There was a significant influence of the conventional technique towards the scores of reading comprehension achievement on the narrative text. (4) There was not any significant influence of the conventional technique towards the scores of reading comprehension achievement on the narrative text. <p>The research was conducted to improve the tenth-grade students’ reading comprehension on narrative texts through the Interactive read-aloud technique at MA Alhidayah Muara Telang. The problems of this study were (1) most students do not respond to the lesson in the class activity, (2) The students have difficulties to comprehend reading text, (3) The students have a low interest to learn, (4) The students cannot express their response for giving questions about things, because they do not have enough vocabulary. The researcher applied classroom action research which had been conducted into two cycles, where every cycle has three meetings. Each cycle had four steps; they were planning, action, observation, and reflection. Based on the quantitative data, it showed that the students’ reading comprehension on narrative text marked a significant increase from the average score of reading comprehension within the two cycles. In the average score of the test, the first achievements’ score was 74 and the second achievements’ score was 87. The percentage of the first classical achievement was 54 % and the second classical achievements were 93 %. The researcher concluded that the interactive read-aloud technique could improve the students’ reading comprehension of narrative texts significantly.</p>Dahlia DahliaIndawan SyahriMulyadi Mulyadi

<p>This research was concerned with the influence of the mind mapping method and learning motivation towards students` writing ability on descriptive texts at Islamic Junior High School Two of Palembang in the academic year 2019/2020. Sixty students of the eighth grade were chosen as samples utilizing two stages of random sampling. This study applied the factorial research design. The data were collected by using questionnaires and tests. The data were analyzed by using Normality, Homogeneity, Independent Sample t-test, and Two-Way ANOVA. The results showed that, first, there was a significant difference in students’ writing ability on descriptive texts for the students who have high learning motivation with the students who have low learning motivation taught by using the mind mapping method, Second, there was a significant difference on students’ writing ability on descriptive texts for the students who have high learning motivation taught by using mind mapping and conventional method. Third, there was a significant difference in students’ writing ability for the students who had low learning motivation taught by using the mind mapping method and the conventional method. Fourth, there was a significant difference in students’ writing ability on descriptive texts for the students who have high learning motivation with the students who have low learning motivation taught by using the conventional method, finally, there were significant interaction effects of learning motivation on students’ writing ability on descriptive text taught by using mind mapping method and learning motivation at Islamic Junior High School Two of Palembang. This research was aimed at finding whether the use of Think Pair Share improved the second-semester students’ reading ability at Politeknik Sekayu.Related to the purposes of the study, the research design used in this study was classroom action research. The subject of the study was the students of accounting class 2A of Politeknik Sekayu in the academic year of 2019/2020. Data collection included the application of the Think pair Share technique in three cycles. Data were analyzed using quantitatively and qualitatively. The research findings showed that the Think pair Share technique improved students’ reading comprehension. The technique enabled students to practice some reading strategies in the form of individual, pair, and team. The improvement of students’ reading ability can be seen from the result of the reading test which has the percentage score test 1 is 45%, test 2 is 64% and test 3 is 86%. This research also showed that the activities in the Think Pair Share technique enhanced students’ ability in comprehending reading. The research was concerned with the inquiry on the influence of mind mapping and reading attitude on the fourth-grade pupils’ reading comprehension of Elementary School Palm Kids, Palembang. The problem of this study was to find out whether or not there was a significant effect of mind mapping on the fourth-grade pupils’ reading comprehension of Elementary School Palm Kids, Palembang. Mind mapping is a visual communication tool that uses visual symbols to express ideas and concepts, to convey meaning. Data collection employed pretest and posttest for experimental and control classes. Data analysis was undertaken by using paired sample t-test, independent sample t-test, and Two-way ANOVA. Findings showed that there was a significant effect of mind mapping and reading attitude on the fourth-grade pupils’ reading comprehension of Elementary School Palm Kids, Palembang. The conclusion suggests that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted while the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. The purposes of this study are to discover the similarities and differences between English and Indonesian pronouns based on semantic components, to predict the possible difficulties faced by Indonesian students in learning English pronouns, and to find out the implications for language teaching. In this study, the writer used the descriptivequalitative method. In collecting and validating the data, the writer applied the triangulation technique. It used documentation, observation, and interview techniques. Based on the findings, it was found that they were eight similarities and three differences between English and Indonesian pronouns through semantic components; three possible difficulties problems faced by Indonesian students in learning English pronouns; and two implications for language teaching.Ruddamayanti Ruddamayanti

The objective of the research was to know how the use of the discovery learning model with songs as media could improve the tenth-grade students’ speaking skills at Al Ihsan Senior High School, Tanjung Lago. The action research model employed Kemmis and McTaggart's. It consisted of four steps which were planning, action, observation, and reflection. The results of the research show that there was an improvement in the students’ speaking skills by implementing the discovery learning and English songs as media. The improvement was also supported by the percentage of students’ average scores. The percentage improvement in the average value of students from cycle1 and cycle2 is 2,46%, from cycle 2 and cycle 3 is 3,45 %. Then from the result of the test that the researcher got in the last cycle, there were 84% of students who got up to minimum criteria score.Desi Rosa Ria

This study is entitled “Moral Values and Intrinsic Elements Depicted in Novel Entitled The Land of Five Towers By Ahmad Fuadiâ€.Data were collected by using the novel. Data were analyzed by detailing intrinsic elements, moral values, and the theoretical implications for English Language Teaching. The findings of this research explained some interesting things about this novel. First, it was about how Alif’s life at present, his life in Bukittinggi and Pondok Madani (PM) boarding school, Alif met with his friends at PM, and they were together to make their dreams come true. This information made this novel more interesting. Second, there were four moral values found in this novel, 1) responsibility, 2) sincerity, 3) patience, and 4) yearning. Third, this novel could be used as a tool for teachers to teach about dreams, motivations and inspirations, success tips, self-preservation in High Schools. The research was based on a preliminary study on the problems related to student reading comprehension. The problems of the study were (1) students have little understanding to convey the meaning of words in the descriptive text, (2) long sentences in the descriptive text make students confused in understanding the meaning of the text, (3) students have a little interest in learning and understanding the meaning of the text, (4) teachers have difficulties to find the suitable method to stimulate students in learning reading text. This study was a classroom action research for the seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 2 TelukGelam of OKI and its inquiry to improve student's reading comprehension on the descriptive text through jigsaw teaching strategy. This research was conducted in two cycles, each cycle has four steps these are (1) plan, (2) action, (3) observation, and (4) reflection. To collect the data, the researcher used the instrument of observations and tests. The data obtained were presented in two ways, qualitatively and quantitatively. The findings showed that there was an increasing average score from cycle 1 (61.60) to cycle 2 (83.75). It means that was 22.15% of students improving their reading ability to cycle 2. Based on the result, it is concluded that the jigsaw teaching strategy can improve students’ reading comprehension of the descriptive text in cycle 1 to cycle 2.Ratmini RatminiIndawan SyahriBaginda Simaibang

This research was conducted by the researcher as an English teacher at Taman Siswa Vocational School of Palembang for the tenth-grade students in the academic year of 2019/2020. Since only a few students could participate in the research, this study aimed to find out how the Small Group Discussion Strategy (SGDS) improved students' speaking skills. The subject of this study was 22 students from the tenth grade of Taman Siswa Vocational School of Palembang. The material used was advertisement materials. The materials contain selected advertisement texts to be discussed by students during the study. The method of this study was Classroom Action Research (CAR). This study was conducted in three cycles with several procedures, there were planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Each cycle has two meetings and one test. Data from this study were obtained by using oral tests and questionnaires. The findings from this study indicated that using the Small Group Discussion Strategy (SGDS) can improve the students' speaking achievement. The improvement by improvement was seen starting from cycle II and cycle III. In Cycle II it appeared that the percentage of students who got the criteria of a minimum standard score was 68.20% and students who did not get the criteria of a minimum standard score were 31.80%. In the last cycle III. twenty students who got the criteria of a minimum standard score with a percentage of 86.40% and two students who did not get the criteria of a minimum standard score were 13.60%. This study was a classroom action research which concerned with the inquiry on how mind mapping technique could improve the reading skill of the tenth-grade students’ of State Senior high School 1 of Ujanmas. This research was conducted into three cycles (cycles 1,2, and 3) and the preliminary stage was initiated before the study was conducted. Each cycle had four steps: plan, action, observation, and reflection. The subjects of the research were thirty-five tenth-grade students. The technique for collecting qualitative data employed was an observation, to know the improvement of teaching and learning activities, whereas quantitative data were obtained through a reading test. The research result showed that (1) mind mapping technique could improve the students reading skill, (2) mind mapping technique could enhance students’ motivation in the teaching and learning process, (3) mind mapping technique could increase students’ attention to understand and students were encouraged in asking and answering a question. The purpose of this study is to find out what moral values are found in the novel ‘Everything I Never Told You’ by Celeste Ng. The researcher investigates moral values through novels because today the moral crisis among youths tends to increase. The data analysis technique in this study is a qualitative data analysis technique.
