https://jurnal.univpgri-palembang.ac.id/index.php/esteem/article/view/15786

One of the main drivers of human resource development is education. Particularly in coastal regions like Mantigola village, which is home to the Bajo tribe, Indonesia struggles to provide fair and high-quality education. One of the factors contributing to unequal access to education, according to the National Development Planning Agency (2014), is remote rural geographic settings. Aside from topographical issues, the primary concerns at Mantigola State Satap Middle School are inadequate infrastructure, low reading and writing literacy, and the pupils' fishing culture. The Merdeka Curriculum places a strong emphasis on creating learning experiences that are student-centered. Before establishing learning objectives, the Dick and Carey methodology provides a way to assess instructional needs using Front End Analysis (FEA). This study investigates how FEA is used at Satap Negeri Mantigola Middle School to create learning goals that are pertinent to the Merdeka Curriculum and appropriate for the students' setting. The implementation of FEA in this situation was examined using a qualitative descriptive case study methodology. The findings demonstrate how FEA aids in determining the needs, performance, and learning environments of students as well as in creating more purposeful and flexible learning objectives.
Sinta Kalsum Wa OdeDjono

https://jurnal.univpgri-palembang.ac.id/index.php/esteem/article/view/16651

The purpose of this study was to look into how eighth-grade students at MTs. Negeri 2 Ogan Komering Ilir's cooperative learning and learning motivation strategies affected their reading comprehension skills. The study investigated the effects of two independent variables—methods and learning motivation—using a 2x2 factorial design (with two levels: high motivation and low motivation). Four different groups were created out of the participants: class without treatment-low motivation, class without treatment-high motivation, cooperative learning-low motivation, and cooperative learning-high motivation. Tests and questionnaires were used to gather information about the participants' reading comprehension abilities. The results showed that students with varying levels of learning desire, as well as those who participated in cooperative learning and attended class without receiving any instruction, had differing reading comprehension abilities. Nevertheless, it was not discovered that there was a statistically significant interaction between cooperative learning and learning motivation. These findings imply that although learning motivation and cooperative learning both have an independent impact on reading comprehension, their combined effect could not have a substantial effect on students' performance in this specific situation. The results advance our knowledge of how technique and student motivation interact to improve reading comprehension abilities.
HayaniTahrunMulyadi

https://jurnal.univpgri-palembang.ac.id/index.php/esteem/article/view/16891

Effective communication is a cornerstone of academic and professional success, with both public speaking and interpersonal communication playing pivotal roles in university settings. This article examines the differences and interrelations between these two forms of communication within the context of higher education. Public speaking, characterized by structured, formal presentations, often highlights students’ ability to organize thoughts and present ideas to larger audiences. It is crucial for activities such as class presentations, conferences, and academic competitions. On the other hand, interpersonal communication, which involves more spontaneous, informal, and one-on-one or small group interactions, is essential for effective collaboration, networking, and fostering relationships in group projects and everyday university life. While public speaking develops clarity and persuasive skills, interpersonal communication fosters adaptability, empathy, and deeper connections. Both forms of communication are complementary and equally necessary for students’ holistic development, equipping them with the tools to thrive academically and in future professional environments. This article explores strategies to strengthen both public speaking and interpersonal communication skills, emphasizing the importance of integrating them into university curricula to prepare students for diverse communication challenges.
Erna Sunarti

Anxiety is one of the affective factors that influences foreign language learning, particularly in speaking. Anxiety appears to be an important factor in language learning progress, as it has a hindering effect on learners' oral performance. One approach to addressing this issue is through "English Content Creator" training. This training aims not only to improve English language skills but also to equip tour guides with the ability to create creative content relevant to tourism. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method with a literature review approach. As we know, typical English learners among tour guides in these villages often experience high levels of apprehension when speaking, such as fear of making mistakes, nervousness, and lack of confidence. To help them overcome this anxiety, it is crucial for educators to encourage tour guides to learn English in a fun and engaging way, one of which is through the use of content creators.
Novanda Alim Setya NugrahaUwes Anis ChaerumanNinuk Lustyantie

https://jurnal.univpgri-palembang.ac.id/index.php/esteem/article/view/17174

The length of school hours has a significant impact on students' physical and mental health, raising concerns about balancing academic demands with well-being. In countries like Indonesia, long school hours often lead to issues like fatigue, stress, and poor nutrition. Conversely, countries with shorter school days, such as Finland, show better health outcomes. This study aims to explore the relationship between school hours and student health, providing evidence-based recommendations for education policy reform. Its innovative approach compares different cultural and educational contexts, including Indonesia, to highlight region-specific effects. Using qualitative methods, the research involved interviews, observations, and document analysis, gathering data from students, parents, and teachers. Findings suggest that longer school hours negatively affect physical activity, sleep, and overall well-being, while shorter hours and later start times improve mental health and academic engagement. Indonesia’s Karja Sezi program demonstrates the effectiveness of policies, like regulated meals, in reducing health risks. This study contributes to discussions on education and health, offering actionable insights for policymakers to create balanced school schedules that support both academic success and student well-being.
Burhanuddin Talib

The purpose of this study was to identify different types of play, such as physical, symbolic, and social play, as well as the role that parents play in supporting these types of play. This was accomplished through observations, interviews with parents, and documenting of play activities. According to the findings, parents who are actively involved in play with their children have the ability to improve their children's social skills, including the ability to share, cooperate, resolve conflicts, and understand diverse points of view. In addition, it was discovered that play stimulation, particularly in the form of role-playing and group play, plays a significant role in the development of empathy, communication skills, and language acquisition. The excessive use of digital media and the restricted amount of time that parents have available to spend with their children were highlighted as variables that inhibit the quality of interactions that occur during play. The findings of this study indicate that parental play stimulation is an essential component in the process of nurturing both social and language development in young children. This finding has implications for both parents and educators in terms of the development of play activities that support children's overall growth and development.
Ninda Yustika NasutionAan Listiana

Pronunciation plays a vital role in effective communication, ensuring that a speaker's message is clearly conveyed to the listener. This research explores the challenges faced by EFL students in pronouncing assimilation in English connected speech, particularly focusing on difficulties with various types of assimilation, including /t/, /d/, /n/, and /s/. An exploratory quantitative approach was utilized, involving students from the English Education Department at STAIN Mandailing Natal. Participants completed a pronunciation test to evaluate their ability to identify and produce assimilated sounds. The results revealed notable difficulties, with a high frequency of incorrect responses, indicating significant challenges in pronouncing certain types of assimilation. Among these, the assimilation of /d/ and /n/ sounds proved to be the most challenging, while /s/ assimilation was comparatively easier. The study emphasizes the importance of targeted pronunciation training, addressing the most problematic assimilation patterns, and integrating interactive, personalized teaching methods to enhance students' overall pronunciation skills.
Fitriani

https://jurnal.univpgri-palembang.ac.id/index.php/esteem/article/view/17382

Counseling interventions coordinated by social work are essential for suicide prevention in underprivileged groups. Linguistic methodologies in counseling promote effective communication, improve comprehension, and foster trust between social workers and vulnerable children. This study examines optimal practices for applying counseling strategies that incorporate linguistic sensitivity among two underrepresented communities. The results indicate that this method effectively enhanced children's emotional regulation (80%), self-confidence (75%), and the formation of healthy interpersonal relationships (85%). Nonetheless, obstacles such as stigma associated with mental health care, parental opposition, and resource limitations persist as considerable impediments. Recommendations encompass training social workers in linguistically inclusive communication techniques, enhancing cross-sector policy support, and utilizing technology to broaden program outreach. This study emphasizes that incorporating language and cultural methodologies into social work counseling can effectively mitigate suicide risk in marginalized areas, ensuring communication is socially and culturally pertinent while promoting trust and engagement.
Satria Yudistira
