Particularly in coastal regions like Mantigola village, which is home to the Bajo tribe, Indonesia struggles to provide fair and high-quality education. One of the factors contributing to unequal access to education, according to the National Development Planning Agency (2014), is remote rural geographic settings. Aside from topographical issues, the primary concerns at Mantigola State Satap Middle School are inadequate infrastructure, low reading and writing literacy, and the pupils' fishing culture. The Merdeka Curriculum places a strong emphasis on creating learning experiences that are student-centered. Before establishing learning objectives, the Dick and Carey methodology provides a way to assess instructional needs using Front End Analysis (FEA). This study investigates how FEA is used at Satap Negeri Mantigola Middle School to create learning goals that are pertinent to the Merdeka Curriculum and appropriate for the students' setting. The implementation of FEA in this situation was examined using a qualitative descriptive case study methodology. The findings demonstrate how FEA aids in determining the needs, performance, and learning environments of students as well as in creating more purposeful and flexible learning objectives.
Sinta Kalsum Wa Ode, Djono Copyright (c) 2024 Sinta Kalsum Wa Ode, Djono http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 https://jurnal.univpgri-palembang.ac.id/index.php/esteem/article/view/15786 Wed, 11 Dec 2024 00:00:00 +0000 PUBLIC RELATIONS STRATEGY IN REALISING VISION, MISSION AND SCHOOL IMAGE https://jurnal.univpgri-palembang.ac.id/index.php/esteem/article/view/16670
This study aims to determine the strategies used by public relations in realising vision and mission and school image at DDI Mangkoso Junior High School. Negeri 2 Ogan Komering Ilir's cooperative learning and learning motivation strategies affected their reading comprehension skills. The study investigated the effects of two independent variables—methods and learning motivation—using a 2x2 factorial design (with two levels: high motivation and low motivation). Four different groups were created out of the participants: class without treatment-low motivation, class without treatment-high motivation, cooperative learning-low motivation, and cooperative learning-high motivation. Tests and questionnaires were used to gather information about the participants' reading comprehension abilities. The results showed that students with varying levels of learning desire, as well as those who participated in cooperative learning and attended class without receiving any instruction, had differing reading comprehension abilities. Nevertheless, it was not discovered that there was a statistically significant interaction between cooperative learning and learning motivation. These findings imply that although learning motivation and cooperative learning both have an independent impact on reading comprehension, their combined effect could not have a substantial effect on students' performance in this specific situation. The results advance our knowledge of how technique and student motivation interact to improve reading comprehension abilities.
Hayani, Tahrun, Mulyadi Copyright (c) 2024 Hayani, Tahrun, Mulyadi http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 https://jurnal.univpgri-palembang.ac.id/index.php/esteem/article/view/16651 Wed, 11 Dec 2024 00:00:00 +0000 DEVELOPMENT OF CARTOON STRIPS AS A SOURCE FOR LEARNING ENGLISH https://jurnal.univpgri-palembang.ac.id/index.php/esteem/article/view/16122
The purpose of this research is to develop cartoon strips as a source of English learning for class VIII students. This article examines the differences and interrelations between these two forms of communication within the context of higher education. Public speaking, characterized by structured, formal presentations, often highlights students’ ability to organize thoughts and present ideas to larger audiences. It is crucial for activities such as class presentations, conferences, and academic competitions. On the other hand, interpersonal communication, which involves more spontaneous, informal, and one-on-one or small group interactions, is essential for effective collaboration, networking, and fostering relationships in group projects and everyday university life. While public speaking develops clarity and persuasive skills, interpersonal communication fosters adaptability, empathy, and deeper connections. Both forms of communication are complementary and equally necessary for students’ holistic development, equipping them with the tools to thrive academically and in future professional environments. This article explores strategies to strengthen both public speaking and interpersonal communication skills, emphasizing the importance of integrating them into university curricula to prepare students for diverse communication challenges.
Erna Sunarti Copyright (c) 2024 Erna Sunarti http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 https://jurnal.univpgri-palembang.ac.id/index.php/esteem/article/view/16891 Wed, 11 Dec 2024 00:00:00 +0000 DEVELOPMENT OF THE USE OF EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY BASED ON THE QUIZIZZ APPLICATION IN INCREASING STUDENTS' INTEREST IN LEARNING AT SMK NEGERI 1 SITOLU ORI https://jurnal.univpgri-palembang.ac.id/index.php/esteem/article/view/16914
The purpose of this study is to increase student interest in learning at SMK Negeri 1 Sitolu Ori by developing strategies for using the Quizizz application, developing the use of the Quizizz program, and determining how students react to its use. One of the most important methods in which children develop their social, emotional, and cognitive abilities is through play. The purpose of this study was to identify different types of play, such as physical, symbolic, and social play, as well as the role that parents play in supporting these types of play. This was accomplished through observations, interviews with parents, and documenting of play activities. According to the findings, parents who are actively involved in play with their children have the ability to improve their children's social skills, including the ability to share, cooperate, resolve conflicts, and understand diverse points of view. In addition, it was discovered that play stimulation, particularly in the form of role-playing and group play, plays a significant role in the development of empathy, communication skills, and language acquisition. The excessive use of digital media and the restricted amount of time that parents have available to spend with their children were highlighted as variables that inhibit the quality of interactions that occur during play. The findings of this study indicate that parental play stimulation is an essential component in the process of nurturing both social and language development in young children. This finding has implications for both parents and educators in terms of the development of play activities that support children's overall growth and development.
Ninda Yustika Nasution, Aan Listiana Copyright (c) 2024 Ninda Yustika Nasution, Aan Listiana http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 https://jurnal.univpgri-palembang.ac.id/index.php/esteem/article/view/17269 Wed, 11 Dec 2024 00:00:00 +0000 ANALYSIS OF THE USE “WHO AM I GAME” IN LEARNING DESCRIPTIVE TEXT TO INCREASE STUDENTS WRITING SKILLS OF JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL 30 PALEMBANG https://jurnal.univpgri-palembang.ac.id/index.php/esteem/article/view/15826

The objective of this study was to investigate the impact that playing the game "Who am I" has on the students' capacity to comprehend descriptive literature at Junior High School 30 Palembang. Linguistic methodologies in counseling promote effective communication, improve comprehension, and foster trust between social workers and vulnerable children. This study examines optimal practices for applying counseling strategies that incorporate linguistic sensitivity among two underrepresented communities. The results indicate that this method effectively enhanced children's emotional regulation (80%), self-confidence (75%), and the formation of healthy interpersonal relationships (85%). Nonetheless, obstacles such as stigma associated with mental health care, parental opposition, and resource limitations persist as considerable impediments. Recommendations encompass training social workers in linguistically inclusive communication techniques, enhancing cross-sector policy support, and utilizing technology to broaden program outreach. This study emphasizes that incorporating language and cultural methodologies into social work counseling can effectively mitigate suicide risk in marginalized areas, ensuring communication is socially and culturally pertinent while promoting trust and engagement.
Satria Yudistira Copyright (c) 2024 Satria Yudistira http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 https://jurnal.univpgri-palembang.ac.id/index.php/esteem/article/view/17382 Thu, 19 Dec 2024 00:00:00 +0000 DIGITAL LITERACY COMPETENCE OF MOVER TEACHERS IN IMPLEMENTING THE INDEPENDENT CURRICULUM IN SUMBAWA BESAR CITY https://jurnal.univpgri-palembang.ac.id/index.php/esteem/article/view/17645
This study examines the efforts of Mover Teachers in Sumbawa Besar City to implement digital literacy principles in line with the Independent Curriculum. Poor communication can hinder the delivery of material, making the learning process less engaging. One method to enhance learning engagement is through the use of strip story media. This medium is practical, simple, and enjoyable, supporting both teachers and students in creating a dynamic learning environment. This study aims to investigate the effect of using strip story media on students' learning outcomes in social studies. The research employed a one-group pretest-posttest experimental design. The results showed that the average score of students using strip story media was 80, higher than the control group's average score of 95. Statistical analysis using the Independent Sample t-Test indicated a significant effect, with the calculated t-value (t_calculated = 9.149) exceeding the critical t-value (t_table = 2.564) and a significance level (Sig = 0.000) below 0.05. This led to the rejection of the null hypothesis (H0) and the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Ha), confirming that strip story media significantly impacts the social studies learning outcomes of fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 080 Panyabungan. In conclusion, strip story media positively and significantly affects students' learning outcomes. The findings imply the need for integrating innovative teaching media like strip stories to enhance learning. Future research could explore its application in other subjects or educational levels to expand its benefits.
Amanda Sari Nasution, Rahmi Seri Hanida, Hanifah Oktarina Copyright (c) 2025 Amanda Sari Nasution, Rahmi Seri Hanida, Hanifah Oktarina http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 https://jurnal.univpgri-palembang.ac.id/index.php/esteem/article/view/17765 Mon, 06 Jan 2025 00:00:00 +0000 DENOTATION, CONNOTATION, AND MYTH THROUGH VERBAL AND NON-VERBAL SIGNS ON REPRESENTATION OF IDENTITY IN THE BIG SIX PREMIERE LEAGUE CLUB LOGOS https://jurnal.univpgri-palembang.ac.id/index.php/esteem/article/view/17755
This study investigates the verbal and non-verbal elements within the logos of the "Big Six" Premier League clubs, aiming to uncover their denotative, connotative, and mythological meanings, and how these aspects represent identity.
