Abstract

This study was conducted to examine the influence of education and training on the performance of employees with competencies as intermediate variables at the Water Resources Management Office (PSDA) of South Sumatra Province. This study uses a quantitative method with an associative approach, and involves as many as 83 respondents as a research sample. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using validity, reliability, linear regression, and hypothesis tests through t-tests and F-tests. The results of the study indicate that the education variable does not have a significant influence on employee performance, which is shown by the value of the regression coefficient of -0.039 The significance value obtained is 0.789 (>0.05) indicates that education has no significant effect on employee performance. On the other hand, the training variable was shown to have a positive and significant influence on employee performance, which was shown with a significance value of less than 0.05. Meanwhile, competence had a positive relationship with employee performance with a significance value of 0.011 (<0.05), but did not show a significant direct influence because the significance value was 0.332 (>0.05). Together, the variables of education, training, and competence have a significant effect on employee performance. This is evidenced by a determination coefficient value (R²) of 0.403, which indicates that employee performance can be explained by these three variables, while the rest is influenced by other factors that were not studied in this study.
