Perbedaan dari masing–masing gaya musik yang ditampilkan seperti musik di zaman baroq, modern (populer) dan music melayu, di butuhkan suatu pendekatan secara keilmuan dibidang “teoriâ€. Adapun pendukung teori tersebut yakni, seperti buku sejarah musik, buku istilah musik untuk mengetahui tentang pengertian dari simbol yang terdapat di dalam repertoar. Dirumuskan bahwa, Zaman Baroq dengan ciri-ciri bentuk tema dan variasi yang sangat menonjol dan banyak menggunakan ornament atau nada–nada hias, Musik zaman Barok biasanya tidak pernah lari dari tempo dan pada umumnya bersifat polifoni. Musik Barok lazimnya hanya mencerminkan satu jenis emosi saja. Dibandingkan dengan music zaman Romantik, Musik Barok jarang mempunyai modulasi atau rubato. Musik Melayu memiliki gaya musik yang khas pada pemakaian nada–nada hias (cengkok atau garinyiak) yang disebut dalam istilah musik melayu. Mempunyai tempo yang bervariasi, misalnya langgam, zapin, senandung, joget dan patam–patam.
