Abstract

Curriculum development plays a crucial role in building an education system that is relevant, adaptive, and responsive to the dynamics of the times and the needs of students. To optimally achieve educational goals, curriculum development requires a solid and comprehensive foundation. This study aims to examine and analyze the four main pillars of curriculum development: philosophical, psychological, sociological, and legal foundations, using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. The research method used was qualitative, with data collection techniques based on literature studies. Data sources included six book references and 30 scientific journal articles published between 2020 and 2025. The data sources were then reviewed by including Indonesian language articles, according to keywords, and a quantitative research approach, resulting in 17 journal articles to be reviewed systematically. The analysis shows that the philosophical foundation serves as a compass that determines the direction and ideals of education based on societal values. The psychological foundation ensures that learning materials and methods align with the developmental stages and characteristics of students. Meanwhile, the sociological foundation ensures synchronization between the curriculum and socio-cultural realities, and the legal foundation provides legal legitimacy for the implementation of education policies. It is concluded that these four aspects are an inseparable, interacting whole in creating a quality curriculum framework.
