Analisis Kemampuan Berpikir Kritis Ditinjau dari Kepercayaan Diri Siswa dalam Pembelajaran Matematika

Abstract

This study was conducted to describe students’ critical thinking skills based on their levels of self-confidence in mathematics learning on the topic of Systems of Linear Equations in Two Variables. The research employed a qualitative descriptive method involving eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Sepatan as the research subjects. Data were collected using three instruments, namely a self-confidence questionnaire, a critical thinking skills test, and interviews. The analysis of students’ critical thinking skills referred to the indicators of interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and inference. The results showed that students with a high level of self-confidence were able to demonstrate good achievement across all indicators of critical thinking skills. Students with a moderate level of self-confidence were able to fulfill several indicators, particularly in the aspects of interpretation and analysis, although errors were still found in the evaluation and inference stages. Students in the low self-confidence category still showed limitations in applying critical thinking skills. These limitations were reflected in difficulties in understanding problems, organizing solution procedures systematically, and formulating conclusions that were consistent with the obtained solutions. The findings indicate that there is a relationship between students’ self-confidence and their critical thinking skills in solving mathematical problems.
