JUANG: Jurnal Wahana Konseling refers to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Core Practices as a guiding framework in handling publication ethics, editorial decision-making, authorship, peer review, conflicts of interest, complaints, corrections, and retractions. The journal also supports the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing in managing its editorial and publication processes. All parties involved in the publication process, including authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher, are expected to comply with these ethical standards and cooperate in maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record.

This statement applies to all manuscripts submitted to and published in JUANG: Jurnal Wahana Konseling.

1. Ethical Principles

The journal is committed to ensuring that all published articles are:

  • original, scholarly, and ethically conducted;
  • free from plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, and unethical research practices;
  • reviewed fairly, objectively, and confidentially; and
  • corrected, clarified, or retracted when necessary to maintain the integrity of the academic record.

The editorial team reserves the right to reject, request revision of, or retract any manuscript or published article found to violate ethical standards.

2. Duties of Authors

Authors are responsible for the content of their manuscripts and must ensure that their submissions comply with accepted ethical and scholarly standards.

Authors must:

  • submit only original work that has not been published previously and is not under consideration elsewhere;
  • present their research honestly, clearly, and accurately without fabrication, falsification, or inappropriate data manipulation;
  • ensure that all data are genuine, valid, and reported transparently;
  • properly cite and acknowledge the work, ideas, words, and data of others;
  • avoid plagiarism, self-plagiarism, and redundant publication;
  • ensure that all listed authors have made significant scholarly contributions to the manuscript;
  • ensure that all co-authors have reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript and agreed to its submission;
  • disclose all sources of funding and any financial, institutional, or personal conflicts of interest;
  • obtain ethical approval, permission, and informed consent where required, especially for research involving human participants, students, clients, or vulnerable groups;
  • protect participants’ privacy, confidentiality, and dignity; and
  • promptly notify the editor if a significant error or inaccuracy is discovered in the submitted or published work.

Authorship

Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made substantial contributions to the conception or design of the study, data collection, analysis or interpretation, drafting of the article, or critical revision of its intellectual content. Individuals who contributed to the work but do not meet the criteria for authorship should be acknowledged appropriately.

Any request to add, remove, or rearrange authors after submission must be submitted in writing to the editor, together with the consent of all authors involved.

3. Duties of Editors

Editors are responsible for making publication decisions and overseeing the editorial process in a fair, independent, and ethical manner.

Editors must:

  • evaluate manuscripts solely on the basis of scholarly merit, originality, clarity, relevance to the journal’s scope, methodological soundness, and contribution to the field;
  • treat all manuscripts fairly and without discrimination based on race, gender, religion, nationality, institutional affiliation, or political belief;
  • maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and all related editorial communications;
  • ensure a fair, objective, and timely peer review process;
  • avoid handling manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest;
  • make editorial decisions without interference from commercial, institutional, or personal interests;
  • respond appropriately to allegations of ethical misconduct, including plagiarism, duplicate submission, data fabrication, citation manipulation, authorship disputes, or unethical research practices; and
  • publish corrections, clarifications, retractions, or expressions of concern when necessary.

4. Duties of Reviewers

Reviewers assist editors in making editorial decisions and help authors improve the quality of their manuscripts through constructive feedback.

Reviewers must:

  • review manuscripts objectively, fairly, and professionally;
  • maintain the confidentiality of the review process and not share or discuss the manuscript with others without editorial permission;
  • provide constructive, evidence-based, and respectful comments;
  • identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors;
  • inform the editor of any substantial similarity, overlap, or suspected plagiarism in the manuscript;
  • decline to review manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest;
  • refrain from using unpublished information obtained through peer review for personal advantage; and
  • complete their reviews within the agreed timeframe or promptly notify the editor if they are unable to do so.

5. Peer Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to JUANG: Jurnal Wahana Konseling undergo an editorial screening before being sent for peer review. The initial screening assesses the manuscript’s fit with the journal’s scope, compliance with submission guidelines, and adherence to ethical standards.

Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are then reviewed by qualified reviewers with relevant expertise. Reviewers assess the manuscript’s originality, relevance, academic quality, methodology, clarity, and contribution to the field.

The final decision to accept, revise, or reject a manuscript rests with the editor.

6. Plagiarism Policy

All manuscripts submitted to the journal are screened using plagiarism detection software.

The journal allows a maximum similarity index of 20%, excluding bibliography, properly quoted text, standard methodological phrases, and unavoidable overlaps where appropriate.

Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to:

  • direct copying without attribution;
  • paraphrasing without proper acknowledgment;
  • mosaic plagiarism;
  • unattributed translation of another work; and
  • self-plagiarism or redundant publication.

Manuscripts found to contain plagiarism may be rejected immediately or returned to the authors for revision and clarification. If plagiarism is discovered after publication, the article may be corrected or retracted depending on the severity of the case.

7. Ethical Oversight

The journal expects all research reported in submitted manuscripts to have been conducted in accordance with ethical standards.

For studies involving human participants, authors must ensure that:

  • the research has received approval from the relevant ethics committee or institutional authority where applicable;
  • informed consent has been obtained from participants or their legal guardians where required; and
  • confidentiality and privacy are fully protected.

If the editorial team identifies ethical concerns, such as plagiarism, duplicate submission, authorship disputes, data fabrication, falsification, unethical treatment of participants, or citation manipulation, the journal reserves the right to investigate the matter and take appropriate action.

8. Conflicts of Interest

Authors, editors, and reviewers must disclose any financial, professional, institutional, or personal relationships that could influence or appear to influence the objectivity of the publication process.

Such disclosures should be made as early as possible and will be considered by the editorial team in evaluating the manuscript and managing the publication process fairly.

9. Data Integrity and Reporting Standards

Authors must present an accurate account of the work performed and an objective discussion of its significance. Underlying data should be represented accurately in the manuscript. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior and are unacceptable.

Where appropriate, authors may be requested to provide raw data, supporting documents, or other relevant materials for editorial review.

10. Citation Manipulation

The journal does not tolerate citation manipulation in any form. Authors, reviewers, and editors must not add citations that are not academically relevant for the purpose of increasing citation counts or journal metrics.

Any attempt to manipulate citations may result in rejection of the manuscript or other editorial action.

11. Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication

Authors must not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal at the same time. Authors also must not publish manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one journal unless fully disclosed and ethically justified.

Redundant or duplicate publication is considered unethical and may result in rejection or retraction.

12. Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools

If artificial intelligence or automated tools are used in the preparation of a manuscript, such use must be disclosed appropriately when it has materially contributed to drafting, language editing, image generation, or data presentation.

Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, citation, and integrity of all content submitted. Artificial intelligence tools may not be listed as authors because they cannot take responsibility for the work.

13. Complaints and Appeals

The journal welcomes ethical complaints and reasonable appeals regarding editorial decisions, peer review conduct, or publication procedures.

Complaints and appeals must be submitted in writing to the editorial office with a clear explanation and supporting information. The editor will review the matter fairly and, if necessary, consult members of the editorial board or additional independent reviewers. The final decision will be communicated to the complainant in writing.

14. Corrections, Retractions, and Expressions of Concern

When necessary, the journal will publish:

  • corrections for significant errors that do not invalidate the findings;
  • retractions for serious ethical violations or invalid findings; and
  • expressions of concern when there is reason to alert readers while an investigation is ongoing.

Such notices will be clearly identified and linked to the original article to preserve the transparency and integrity of the scholarly record.

15. Publisher’s Responsibilities

The publisher supports the editorial team in maintaining editorial independence, ethical oversight, and academic quality. Commercial or administrative interests must not influence editorial decisions.

The publisher is committed to ensuring that ethical concerns are handled seriously and transparently.

16. Final Statement

JUANG: Jurnal Wahana Konseling is dedicated to maintaining ethical publication practices and ensuring the quality, credibility, and integrity of all published articles. Authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher share responsibility for upholding these standards throughout the submission, review, publication, and post-publication process.
